​Cupcake Chalenge

​We reclaim the cupcake! 

For Food Allergy Awareness Week we have created the Centerview Cupcake Challenge-
a food competition for the rest of us! 


Kids can sign up to show off their cupcake decorating skills. Teams consist of 1-3 members and must be in grades K-12. Ten teams will be given a dozen food allergy friendly cupcakes and 60 minutes to create their masterpiece. Bring your icing, tools and decorating skills to knock the judges' socks off with your creativity.

Prizes will be given to all participants with a Grand Prize of $100 Cash!! 
Vendors Tables to browse and a chance to win Door Prizes for everyone attending! Bring an allergen free or gluten free shelf stable item to be donated to Food Equality Initiatives' special needs pantry for an extra chance for a door prize.


Centerview is a 501(c) 3 non profit organization. Receipts for tax purposes will be available at the sign in table the day of the event.

Official Centerview Cupcake Challenge Rules 2017
Teams
All entries must be received by May 12, 2017.
All team members must be in grades K-12.
All teams must pay a $25 entry fee.
Teams will consist of 1-3 members.
Teams may have 1 coach- who may help manage equipment and time but may NOT decorate.
Team will need to bring one large sealing Rubbermaid type container to carry ALL of your decorating items, tools, and ingredients.
Teams must check in and set up between 6:30 and 7:00 pm the day of the competition. The contest gets underway at 7:00 sharp.

Cupcakes
Each team will have a 6ft table- no sink (bring water if you need it) and one outlet.
Small appliances will be permitted (such as hand mixers) but, BYO Extension Cord.
Each team will be given one dozen cupcakes that have No Gluten, No Wheat, No Corn, No Soy, No Casein, No Dairy, No Preservatives, No Peanuts, No Tree Nuts, No Artificial Colors and No Artificial Flavors. ****Important Note**** These cupcakes will not be eaten. They are for display only!!!
Top 8 free cupcakes will be given special consideration in judging.
Top 8 allergens will be as defined by the FDA.
While allergen free is encouraged, cupcake decorations need not be completely top 8 allergen free yet, no peanuts or tree nuts allowed in any form.
No flames/sparklers etc. will be permitted.
The majority of decorating must be edible, embellishments may be added as accent pieces only (in other words, you may not cover a cupcake with flowers or legos but you may use a small item on a cupcake such as a toothpick flag)
A time limit of exactly 60 minutes will be given to all teams simultaneously. Teams are to use their imagination, creativity, skills and talents to decorate one dozen cupcakes in whatever way they choose. Time will be called at 45 minutes, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes 5,4,3,2, minutes, 60 seconds, 30 seconds, 10-1 second. The end of the competition will be signaled by “cupcakes down” at which point all teams must have hands off cupcakes and put equipment and supplies back into their bins.
We encourage some prep work to be done at home- you only have 60 min!
Icing/frosting may be store bought or homemade but ALL ingredients must be presented on the “CUPCAKE CARD”

Cupcake Cards
Each team will display a Cupcake Card (downloadable or available at check in) identifying team members and cupcake description and ingredients.
If you are making your own frosting from scratch, you may do so ahead of time, but have all ingredients listed on the Cupcake Card. If you used a mix, all ingredients must be listed from package. For instance, “Cherrybrook mix” would not be acceptable. But “Cherry brook mix (Confectionary sugar (contains cornstarch), natural cocoa powder, natural vanilla flavor, sea salt)” would be acceptable.
Each team must fill out the “tell us about yourself” section on the Cupcake Card. This will be read aloud to introduce your team to the audience- help us get to know you!!
While we highly encourage team spirit and support, No signs or excessive chanting etc will be accepted. This is a kids: event, kids are the competitors and all competitors will be encouraged. We will continue to be a supportive community, not losing site of our purpose- to raise awareness in a fun exhibition!

Creativity
Use of Color (not necessarily brightness- could be shading or hue, realism, etc)
Use of Texture
Consistent with theme description
Neatness
Allergy friendliness- PN or TN items NOT allowed and will be disqualified
Other embellishments bonus if used sparingly to add to theme, extra bonus if embellishments are edible
All judging is final

Awards
Awards will be given immediately after the competition during a short ceremony.
Teams 10-6 will receive “honorable mention” and awards.
The top 5 teams will receive awards for:

Cutest Cupcakes
Wildest Cupcakes
Technical Difficulty
Best in Show - $100 Cash!

For liability issues, all creations will become property of CV. You are welcome to take as many pictures and videos of your creation as you like.
​Cupcakes will stay to star in promotional materials for next year!
